Anandaram Dhekial Phukan (আনন্দৰাম ঢেকিয়াল ফুকন; 1829-1859) was a great litterateur and one of the pioneers of Assamese literature in the Orunodoi era who joined in the literary revolution initiated by missionaries. He was remembered for his efforts in promoting the Assamese language. He played a major role in reinstating the Assamese language as the official language of Assam.


Anandaram Dhekial Phukan College (ADPC) was established on 7th September 1959 in the hallowed memory of Anandaram Dhekial Phookan. The college was established to cater immediate need of the learners from rural background with a vision of making itself a center of excellence. At present the college is offering various Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in Arts, Science and Commerce streams and it is affiliated to Gauhati University. The college has twenty-one departments, including English, Assamese, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Statistics, Computer Science, Arabic, Sanskrit, Bengali, Hindi, Education, Economics, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Commerce and Herbal Science & Technology. Proudly, we are the part of one of twenty-one departments of ADP College, Department of Physics.


Department of Physics, ADP College was established along with the initiation of science stream on August, 1978 under the able headship of Late Prof. Asraf Ali, founder Head of the Department. The major course was started in 1986. Today, in the 43rd years of its existence, the department attracts students from all parts of the Nagaon district, as well as from other nearby districts like Morigaon, Golaghat and Karbi Anglong. Every year the department enjoys the company of a bunch of aspiring and devoted students studying physics who bring inspiration to the teachers of the department. The department has a collection of about 500 books and 16 e-journals. The library used to serve the purpose of ready reference for the teachers and students of the department. Books are also issued to students of major and general courses on their request. The department has computer and internet facilities. The department has fully equipped with necessary laboratory apparatus for conducting experiments in the B.Sc. Major and General courses.
